Aaj bazaar main pa-bajolan chalo: Happy Birthday Faiz Sahib
13th Feb, 2012: The Birthday of Faiz Sahib, For those Who would want to read more of his History, Please see Wikipedia
Faiz Sahib has been credited with some Beautiful Ghazals, and his Sufi connection shows in his Love Poetry. Here is a brilliant and rare vide of Faiz Sahib Reading His own Poem, Aaj bazaar main pa ba jolan chalo
Chashm-e-nam, jaan-e-shoreeda kafi nahin
wet eyes and restless soul is not enough
Tohmat-e-ishq-posheeda kafi nahin
being charged for nurturing concealed love is not enough
aaj bazaar main pa-bajolan chalo
let us walk in bazaar in shackles
Dast afshan chalo, mast-o-raqsan chalo
let us go with afshan in hand, in trance and dancing
Khak bar sar chalo, khoon badaman chalo
go with dust on head and blood on garb
Rah takta hai sub shehr-e-janaan chalo
Go as the city of my beloved is waiting
Hakim-e-shehr bhi, majma-e-aam bhi
City’s ruler and crowd of commoners
Subh-e-nashaad bhi, roz-e-naakaam bhi
morning of sorrow, day of failure
Teer-e-ilzam bhi, sang-e-dushnam bhi
arrow of false charge, stone of accusation
Unka dum-saaz apnay siwa kaun hai
who is their friend except me
Shehr-e-janaan main ab baa-sifa kaun hai
who is untainted in the city of beloved
Dast-e-qatil kay shayan raha kaun hai
who deserve the killers or executioners hand
Rakht-e-dil bandh lo, dil figaro chalo
get ready for the journey of heart, go wounded heart
Phir hameen qatl ho aain yaro, chalo
let me go to be executed
You Are My Life – My Everything
I am not sure of the Origin of this Ghazal, neither am I sure if it has it’s roots in Sufi’sm in any manner, but this Ghazal has always reminded me of my love for God, and his Creations..There are two beautiful versions of this Ghazal being rendered both by the Ustad of Qawalli, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and by the Ghazal Maeastro Ghulam Ali Sahib himself.
The Rendering by Ghulam Ali Sahib
and the Same Ghazal by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahib
and the Words (In Roman English)
–
Gham hai ya khushi hai tu, meri zindagi hai tu
Whether you are sorrow, or happiness, you are my life.
Aafaton ke daur mein, chain ki ghari hai tu
In the troubled times, you are my moment of relief
Meri raat ka chirag, meri neend bhi hai tu
The light (lamp) of my night, you are my sleep too
Main khizaan ki shaam hu, rut bahaar ki hai tu
I am the Evening of Autumn, You are The Spring of my Life
Doston ke darmiyaan, vajh-e-dostii hai tu
Between Friends, You are the Reason of Friendship
Meri saari umr mein, ek hi kami hai tu
In my whole life, I can never have enough of you
Main toh vo nahin raha, haan, Magar vohi hai tu
I am not the same, But yes, you are the same
Nasir is dayaar mein, kitna ajnabi hai tu
Oh My Helper in this Home, How we have made you a Stranger
—–
This Song has always evoked love for the lord from me, how we over time become strangers, or think he is a stranger, without realising, he is a part of our every moment, when we are sad, he brings us happiness, when it’s autum, he comes in as spring, when we are amongst friends, he is there sitting besides us, we change, but he does not, what better way to love your loved ones.
Ali Ali Dum, Ali Ali – Kailash Kher Spins Another Magic
Here is a Wonderful song I came across today. I have been Very fond of Midival Punditz from the time they came out in 1997, and Kailash Kher is a great favourite of mine. Though to a certain few people this may not look like / hear like a Sufi Song, but come across as what the Hindi Music Folks now call Sufi, but give it a listen, it is actually a beautiful song, rendered in a brilliant manner, and the words can make you think..
and Alternatively in English
Ali Ali Dum, Ali Ali Dum
Duniya Vich Bas Tu Hi Tu
Mera Jism Vi Tu, Meri Jaan Vi Tu
Tudh bin Jeena Te Maut Bhali
Meri Dhadkan da samaan vi tu
Duri te Nahin Jaandi Sahi
Ankh lagdi nahin raat katdi nahin
Tu Halat meri vekh te sahi
Tudh bin jind jindri lagdi nahin
My Understanding…
Oh My Lord, There is nothing but you in this world
You are my Body, You are my Life
I would Rather Die, than not have you in my life
You are My Heart Beat
I can not stay away from you, I can’t sleep with the thought of being away from you
Please grant me your Name, Without it, I have nothing..
Chal Bulleya Chal Uthe Chaliye
Chal Bulleya Chal Uthe Challiye
Jithe Saare Andhe, Na Koi Saadi Zaat (Jaat) Pehchane, Na Koi Saanu Manne
This song, and a brilliant video rendition holds the answers to a lot of mysteries and questions to life, why do we behave the way we do, is it possible to walk away from it, can we leave our greed behind.
I think the above lyrics can mean a lot of things depending on what your mind is thinking at the moment, though the video uses the seven deadly sins to show case the song, but for me, it means a bit different.
In this world of who we are, who we want to be, and where we want to go, to perceptions that we want to create about ourselves, we have come to a point where the world is defined by the brands that we wear, the places that we eat at, the cars that we drive, and the way we are percieved, causing a lot of heartache and to some extent a lot of people killing themselves because they are not able to go up the ladder in the chain of events that we call life today.
What is important is to realise that we all end up connecting with each other for what we really are, the show off of who we are or who we seem to be rubs off over time, there are always the set of people who want to be with you, because they think this is who you are, and then there are those people, who want to be with you, for what you really are.
If we can look at each other, like Blind people do, hear each others heart, listen to what they have to say, and not see what they wear, which car did they arrive at, or what they eat, the world will be a better place, so let’s not judge people for what they look like, or we perceive them to be, let’s look at them on what they are, humans, passionate, good people, and let’s all live in a wonderful place.
