What Should I ask from you Oh My Lord?

Last Year in March (2011) I started cycling after a gap of about 20+ Years, a good part that happened out of the bicycle rides was that I was able to visit a place of worship each morning, and since now the group that I ride with has nearly 60 odd riders, with various backgrounds, belief’s, faiths and walks of life, it also gave a great view of what a prayer should be composed off, but ever since I can remember, I have never been sure of what to really pray for, I have stood in the Gurudwara in front of the Guru Granth Sahib, in front of Idols of Lord Ram and Krishan at Temples, in front of Graves, in front of pebbles, and wondered, What really should I pray for, the God made me an able man, gave me all my limbs, the courage to take on life… and a great life in itself, he ensured that whatever I really needed was always around, and if I fell, his hand was out there in some form or the other to help me get up and get back at it… When I heard “Nit Khair Manga, Sonhiya main Teri”, I don’t recall when was the first time though, I found my prayer, after all what better way to pray, than to say

Nit Khair Manga, Sonhiya main teri, Dua na koi hor mangdi

Oh My Beloved, I pray for your Well-being, and nothing

Tere pairaan vich akhir hove meri, dua na koi hor mangdi

My Life should end at your feet, Nothing else can I pray for

Tere Pyaar Ditta, Jado da Sahara Ve, Maahiya bhul gaya mainu jag saara ve

Ever Since I got your Love, I have forgotten the world

Khushi ae ho mainu sajna batheri, Dua na koi hor mangdi

I am happy just knowing that you love me, There is nothing else I can pray for

Tu milya te, mil gayi khudaayi ve, hath jodiya khafai na judaayi ve

When I got you, I got my Religion, The only thing I can say with folded hands is, don’t leave me

mar javangi te, ankh mere to pheri, dua na koi hor mangdi

I will die, If you turn away from me, There is nothing else I can pray for.

Tere pairaan vich akhir hove meri, dua na koi hor mangdi

My Life should end at your feet, Nothing else can I pray for

A Beautiful version of this Poem has been Rendered by Mir Mukhtiyar Ali Sahib, which can be heard at seen at youtube, sadly the embed on this video is disabled. The same poem has been sung beautifully by a number of artistes, and here are two of my favorite versions, other than the Mir Mukhtiyar sahib’s version.

Here is the one by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Sahib

And Here is another Version by Nusrat Sahib, This time Sung in Raag Durga, Live at WOMAD
